Farewell to our Queen, Elizabeth II:
An immaculate departure from a life lived
in service to others, always on view.
Many years she ruled, always doing her best:
not always easy, with many a test
of diplomacy and patience, living in a world,
every word scrutinised, every word judged;
nothing must ever, ever be fudged.
Now, at last, you are released from all this,
Free to follow your own life of bliss.
Away with the gowns, tiaras and pearls –
now you can be just one of the girls.
Ride your horses or ramble with dogs,
free from restraints or expectations,
Re-united with all your beloved relations.
your life here of service to us is finished,
but our love and memories can never be diminished.
